Isn't the subject the one doing the work of helping? So the subject of the sentence is God. And the one to whom the work is being done is the object? i.e. God helps whom? = Whom does God help?

Really though, when I first put the topic up I used Who and someone below alluded that it was incorrect so I changed it. Now after reading your comment I decided to go check.

Then again, you may be just messing with me lol because who/whom twists my brain a little.
