There is also the not so small question of privacy concerns
about the data the new meter can collect and transmit.
A German group offered proof of concept to their utility company that with 2 second burst intervals of data reporting, simply of how much power is being used, they could determine which devices in the home were likely turned on and even what television program you were watching.
NO ONE needs to know this information - for ANY reason.
