LoL @ some of the remarks. Since I'm already an owner of 1/4 acre elsewhere in the country, I can speak with authority. Yes, you can raise a small family on 1/4 acre and retain reasonable privacy. Like anything, you'll have to work at it. Frankly, I'm too old and tired to move again, but the idea sounds good. Adopt the Amish way of dealing with your problems locally.

Remember this fact: People will become jealous as you prosper from your work and will eventually desire the fruit of your work. Government is the worst offender. Prepare for it.
