That's not quite true, not in the insurance industry. State governments highly regulate this. The government decides what companies you can work with and what plans are permitted in their states. Just because you have the freedom to choose among a small fraction of providers does not mean it's true freedom. If I had freedom to choose I would be able to work with any insurance company in any state, but I cannot due to limitations placed upon us by the gov. Speaking of Geico, at one point not too long ago my State did not permit us to buy insurance from Geico / did not permit Geico to sell car insurance here. Now they do... as long as they are in good standing with the "King."

That's not freedom. It's not the free market. That is a very regulated and limited market.
