Just one family of conmen?
It's a bit of a stretch to say that the entire town and everyone involved are participating in a mass fraud. It's another matter entirely to say that this particular man either a) knew it was going to happen and prepared to use it to further his political agenda, or 2) is an opportunist who saw a great chance to use fraud to rake in money, as well as further his political agenda.
The picture of Lanza I'm sure was done by someone else entirely, and can be use as evidence that the massacre was plotted by someone other than Lanza himself. Once again, a far cry from saying the entire thing was a hoax.
