A lot of contractors are paying pretty decent money to reliable individuals. One bricklayer I worked with was paying $26 an hour for laborers, because he was having such a hard time finding people who would reliably show up every day. If you are willing to hustle, I bet you could walk in just about any contracting or landscaping company and double your current wages. Work your ass off and save money while you still have time as don't have other obligations. Also I agree with some of the other posters, gardening is a great way to help yourself, help your family, gain a valuable skill, and have fun at the same time.
