This is called a psychological suspense, correct? A crime-fiction subgenre?

A psychological suspense fiction lingering over the mind of the criminal and the other people involved. Referred to not as whodunnits but as whydunnits, because they aren't as concerned with the finding of the solution to a crime as they are with psychological and social observation -- with tracing the reasons that lead to a crime and the consequences that flow from it?
