You are absolutely right that authoritarian regimes religious or otherwise have "blood on their hands". Regimes have different modes of control...the one we're dealing now with uses/used religion to control us.

Everyone's idea of "god" is a little different. I'm not speaking of "god" as an "infinite energy" or what's behind the unknown things that happen...I'm speaking more about the "god" that will "strike you down" for not believing, send you to "hell", etc

I like the idea that "god is love" and am fine with that. Peddling "god" or religion through fear...is no better than what our gov't does, and serves the elites in the end.
