It seems you are unaware of history

And simply draw connections between church (Christianity) and state because it is convenient to do so.

Christianity began from humble beginnings of isolation and persecution. Over hundreds of years and millions of conversions did Christianity become the state religion of Rome. It's origins did not start because of the state, it started in spite of the state (go read of the persecutions from men like Diocletian). Christians were the thinking individuals of the time who questioned the deity of Caesar and rejected serving him and they paid a costly price.

So what i'd suggest to you is not to blame Christianity for how the state lached onto it and did the most egregious things under the guise of "Christianity". That's the lazy way out/scape goat of coming to terms with the morality of Christ and what He taught.
