I was writing a paper on how social media has changed society, and realized the very, very dangerous effect of little units of easily-recited information.
Think about Aurora; the meme gets out that the shooter had a bulletproof vest. He didn't, but you wouldn't know that if you asked Joe American who didn't do a lot of research. Same goes for the meme that Lanza used an AR-15 (still haven't seen any proof).
Even if it wasn't orchestrated, the Establishment is jumping in glee at the sheer number of damaging memes coming from this.
