Honestly, we know way to little about this situation. PTSD is an 'umbrella' for various War-related depressions. It really depends on what was the case with this man. If he was in a state where a sight or sound brought back painful memories associated with those sounds OR reflexes/paranoia that can come as a part of training, then yes, it was NOT a wise idea. Generally, if an action resembles the source of the trauma, it's not wise to participate in it unless you have boundaries and are prepared for backlash.
Honestly, I don't think we'll know(this isn't the kind of story I see having a 'deep' investigation by the media, let along 'actual' investigators.)
