"I Like your Christ

I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ." - Gandhi

Christianity is unlike Christ. Seems to me that Christians focus way to much on Christ's Death and the Salvation that came with it, rather than on Christ's Life and Teachings which he also gave quite willingly.

This, of course, is a generalization, but it is fairly accurate here in the Bible Belt. Christians, here in the Bible Belt, are some of the most hateful people I have come to know. While there are several exceptions that I know of, fear and hate seem to drive their Morality rather than Love and Forgiveness.

I grew up Unitarian (BTW - any Libertarian Unitarians out there?) surrounded by Southern Baptists and one Jewish family that lasted about a year. All I heard growing up was God Fearing this and Rapture that. I was taught to do good things, not out of fear of punishment, but for the good feeling it gave. My childhood friends were taught all about Hell and the way to avoid it was to get Saved and go to Church.

When I brought up the Teachings of Christ (we learned all major religions in Unitarian Sunday School) very few knew them, yet all were aware of the Fire and Brimstone messages the Bible contains.

In any event, it is odd for the US, which is 70+% Christians to ALWAYS be engaged in WAR.

Don't you think?
