You are on the nose with your comment. Lying, aggressiveness and self-confidence are all rewarded, if not expected, in our culture. Of these reprehensible traits, I'd say self-confidence is the most important. Everyone is nervous and frightened...ALL THE TIME. If you exude self-confidence, the world will beat a path to your door.

To build self-confidence, do something every day that scares you. What do I mean by this? Force yourself to be more open, start interacting with people in a way that you haven't before. If you have been timid, become outgoing. If you keep to yourself, start singing at a karaoke bar, or take dancing lessons or offer to take an apprenticeship for free somewhere you'd like to work. There are many things that can be done that will only take your time and effort.
