I know someone with a house for sale in the #1 out-migrant state in the country - New Jersey.
House Portion of 15/yr mortgage payments - $575 per month
Tax portion of payments - $525 per month
A comparable home that could be purchased for $150,000 in the South with $750/yr taxes would cost $275,000 in NJ with $8,000/yr taxes.
New York and Connecticut have bad numbers. Illinois is also one of the worst property states in the country. And don't forget California.
This makes it almost impossible to compete with the rest of the country and world.
