Madison sent the USS Constitution to the Mediterranean to protect US merchants and US citizens and their property. The US government is Constitutionally bound to protect the life and property of its citizens.
Libya is not in and around our own waters and ports.
Furthermore Art.1 Sec. 8 states -To define and punish Piracies and Felonies committed on the high Seas, and Offenses against the Law of Nations;
And - To make Rules for the Government and Regulation of the land and naval Forces;
It is law that the Executive branch have the Navy prepared to fight a two front war, protect its merchants and citizens at sea.
Why give this administration a pass on the law because it fits your agenda ? Honor is doing the right thing even when it hurts.....
