That's not how it works.

.com is the absolute most valuable top level domain. Any name is more valuable than any other top level domain.

One of the reasons is because .com is virtually branded into the minds of everyone. Many people go online to look for something they type in what they are looking for + .com.

In Ron Paul's case, that would be

That domain name gets a significant amount of traffic simply because it is the .com domain of RonPaul. No other domain has that type of value.

Moving the website will not drop down to 10 hits a month. In fact, if the website is moved the site will lose significant traffic while the domain name will continue having people visiting it, some by typing in the name and others by clicking links all over the net.
