Okay...

To first post: that's a false dilemma. Even though it's odd, a meteor falling to Earth is not at all a freak occurence; this is very likely some random rock that fell out of space, and happened to hit a populated area this time. It's nothing compared to the Tunguska Event, of course, which would've been a much more devastating strike. Now, if a strike of Tunguska magnituted had hit a major city, THEN I would be suspicious. As it is, the "random rock that fell from space" makes way more sense.

To second post: that appears to be a trail of smoke and debris coming off of the meteor. I guess you could call it a "chem trail," since the meteor is made of chemicals, sort of, so any debris or gases left behind would of course be a trail of chemicals.
