Comment: Ever heard of permaculture?
Ever heard of permaculture?
It does what you describe... You plant an ecosystem, not a garden. You plan to feed the "predators" (deer are garden predators.) For instance, you plant your yummy hybrid and tender fruit trees in dwarf sizes, then plant a canopy of heirloom rootstock type apples over them. The old apple tree will get very tall, and all the birds and most bugs will be attracted to them, and you can get your harvest off the dwarf trees. The big trees also provide some shelter for the more tender trees.
Permaculture is like "companion planting" taken to extremes, and can be done even in very small yards. Check it out, I think you will like it.
