Off the top of my head the idea of voluntary participation in government is a first principle.
Government coercion strongly suggests to me a government so miserable that no one consents to vote. In the last election 49% of eligible American voters abstained. Our government creates a lot of misery.
But this seems like a weak argument.
What is the proposed benefit of this compulsion? Is it to benefit government or the voters?
