The Overview Effect is beautiful.
FYI, when the astronaut was describing how they were spinning and so continually saw the earth with respect to the galaxy, coming to the realization that, really, we were stardust... I thought of this fascinating children's book, Born with a Bang: The Universe Tells Our Cosmic Story, by Jennifer Morgan. (http://www.amazon.com/Born-Bang-Universe-Sharing-Children/dp...) It's written as something of a love letter from the universe to us, explaining how really the universe is us. Yes, as that other astronaut said, when it really registers, it's awesome. Thanks so much for sharing this.
