Darn this was suppossed to be for the comment below

RE Lord of the Rings
Frodo's reasoning was that he felt, much like Gandalf, that Gollum had some part to play and he did if you remember.

At the end Frodo was unwilling to part with the ring and if it were not for Gollum biting Frodo's finger off the ring would have never been destroyed.

The point of that is power can corrupt anyone without someone/something to keep one in check (checks and balances).

History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid.
