I did not do much research on what type of storage was going on here. Just skimmed the article. From what I gathered I thought that it was a reserve storage within the salt dome. After reviewing, I agree with you completely.

I am surprised that nearby wells are even still producing from this dome if formation water has began to take the salt into solution. You would think their water cuts would increase or even compromise their seal in the nearby wells. If this has been ongoing than they should have taken care of this as soon as possible. What a joke. It is unfortunate that some companies do this to save money, thus making the rest of the industry look bad.. I know the majority of operation are successful but do not make the news...
