I find this particularly interesting because...

When I worked as a central vault teller at a large bank in Birmingham years ago, part of my job was to identify counterfeit bills. During that time, I was told BY THE SECRET SERVICE that there are many counterfeit $100 bills in circulation here which come from Russia, that you can not tell are counterfeit in any way other than by the serial numbers. Other than the numbers being off they are IDENTICAL to those printed at the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. That means only someone from the treasury or the secret service would ever be able to know the difference.

Perhaps that has nothing to do with this story but it is interesting none the less.
