I wouldn't have a problem with the disparity in a free society, but I suspect the huge disparity is in large part due to government intervention, favoritism, and regulation. After all, those CEOs wouldn't be so highly rewarded without bailouts and government subsidies. And smaller operations could compete and take a bite out of the pie if they weren't held back by stifling regulations, taxes, and disadvantages. It is really hard to analyze all this under current conditions of corporate welfare and cronyism.
