Will Rogers did it in ONE sentence:

"The more you observe politics, the more you've got to admit that each party is worse than the other."

Mencken's comment, however, is superior in that it does not merely explain the two party system; it explains Government itself. The "error" that needs to be exposed is NOT that politicians of this or that party are villains; it is the superstition that we NEED politicians to run our lives for us, or that they have the rightful authority to do so.
