In 2007, by competitive bid, Michelin was awarded two Tire Privatization Initiative contracts to procure, store and distribute tires to the U.S.
military. Under the terms of the contracts, Michelin supplies tires for nearly every aircraft and ground vehicle used by the military. In order to
maintain the military's tire industrial base, Michelin sources some of these tires from other tire manufacturers. Since the contract award Michelin has
processed more than 130,000 requisitions and delivered more than 1.5 million tires to more than 2,500 military locations around the world.
