Goalposts going back?

I think it's more along the lines of "we're moving the goalposts back to where they were, and should be -- we're just doing it at a measured pace, not instantly."

I really like my twice-commented thought experiment:

1. Get President to admit "I have no authority to kill US citizens on US soil."

2. Get President to admit "I have no authority to kill US citizens."

Then he is on the hook for Al-Awlaki, and especially his 16-year old son killed in a separate strike two weeks later.

I really like the game of chess that Rand is playing.
