Eternally?

Well as long as people have a use for them and throughout history we have found more uses for them not less. There are dredging operations that are currently mining gold from the ocean floor, gold in it's solid form not dissolved. I don't think the technology of mining gold will ever eclipse the demand, as mining tech gets better so does other technologies that demand these metals. There will be ups and downs but I don't think gold will ever get as cheap as say aluminum.
