How would you, or anybody know this? All politics has been has been various forms and flavors of Statism, usually connected in some way with geography (territorial boundaries), religion (Roman Catholic vs. Lutheran, Calvinist, or Anglican...) Moslem (Sunni vs. Shiite) and so on, ethno cultural (British vs Irish, French vs. Algerians, Western Europeans (Spaniards, French and AngloSaxons vs. "Native American" Indians, and so on!
Nowhere and never has there been a concerted and directed effort on the part of human beings, AS human beings, against the principle of Statism itself. Nowhere and never has there been a revolution against the dogma that there are some people who should be governors, rulers, or masters, and others who should be governed! The most that all previous (authoritarians) have had to offer is what KIND of rule-and rulers-the rest of us were to have, and how their rule over us was to be considered legitimate.
Libertarianism, whether "anarchist' or "minarchist" asks altogether different questions that have never really been asked before. Not how the "masses" of us are to be governed, but how each of us should, and must govern ourselves? Not having even asked these questions before, it is probably naive and overly optimistic to suggest at this early time what will "work" and what will not "work". The most that we know is that all existing forms of political organization have dismally failed, and their failures are leading us to catastropic economic, environmental, and military consequences! Consequences which existing power elites ignore, deny, and won't take any responsibility for.
Libertarian failure?? Perhaps, but I don't know of any alternatives, and I don't think that anybody else does either.
PEACE AND FREEDOM!!
