Comment: "The propaganda here is so good!

"The propaganda here is so good!

Americans actually believe it!!!"

That is what this Chinese insurance agent said to me about 7 years ago. He had a PhD in physics and managed to escape communist China somehow. He became an insurance agent in a firm that offers some kind of recurring / residual compensation.

At the same time he was trying to sell me insurance, he was also trying to recruit me into the program to sell it. He did quite well for himself - was driving a Lexus, and was counting the few years until his retirement. In the course of that conversation, he said what I quoted above. He was talking, specifically, about CNN - lol!

When we look at images of Chinese propaganda, it all looks so staged and fakey - everyone smiling and laughing. How could anyone believe that? we wonder. But to the vast majority trapped inside the system, the images are sources of comfort and security.

Now fast forward to 1:52 in the video above, where the interviewer asks the guy, "How does this make you feel?"

"I feel great security, knowing that there are people on the lookout for this type of thing."

Phew! That was a close one! Thank goodness those guys were there! And thank goodness CBS 2′s photojournalist Lana Hinshaw-Klann happened to be at the scene and used a cell-phone camera to record agents in action. [Direct quote from the article.]

The North Korean situation is interesting, too. We just happened to have Red Dawn come out a few months ago, starring none other than the soldiers of North Korea invading the Homeland. Funny how the latest developments in North Korea are being used to justify a huge military buildup, isn't it.

Actually, it is more than funny. It is downright thigh-slapping hilarious.
