Depends on what yo mean by "American"

I have no particular pride in being born on a specific landmass carrying the name "America." I had no choice in the matter, so I have no cause for pride.

On the other hand, the ideal of individual freedom as a RIGHT, as enshrined in our Constitution by our Founders, is something that must be adopted, one person at a time. I am proud to have adopted the principles of the Founders and will be proud to promote those ideas, regardless of what immoral things the criminals in Washington do. They do not define me.
