I think it is very important for people today to see the true horrors and reality of war. It is painful to see but we owe it to the victims to at least expose ourselves to the truth that was their reality.
I read a great book on WWII called "The last battle" which gave first hand accounts of the fall of the Third Reich from a number of perspectives. There were passages that I will never forget the detailed the actions of the Russians when they invaded Berlin which is echoed as a common theme that comes up in almost all wars.
In the end, there is no glory in war. It is nothing more than atrocities that in normal life would be viewed as the most heinous crimes but state sanctioned and committed on a massive scale.
We all share this eternally evolving present moment- The past and future only exist as inconsequential mental fabrications.
