... popular vote makes states meaningless. That's why they didn't set it up as a popular vote back then. The north and south had different views of government. Today, populous states are heavily statist in their views and less populous states are heavily individualist.

While we're at it, let's repeal the 17th Amendment, since the states no longer have representation in the Senate.

Eliminating the Electoral College, which is effectively what this does, is a move towards nationalism, and that is a BAD IDEA.

Look at the mess in the European Union. You might as well be championing world government.

The American system is one designed to DECENTRALIZE power, not centralize it, because power is a corrupting influence and leads to a LOSS OF LIBERTY.
