You object to[your words]"search of a bandwagon or a 'pro-gun' dragon to prop up and slay."?
Although I prefer GOA as a no compromise gun lobby, there can be no doubt the recent anti-gun legislation would have passed without the efforts of the NRA. Thousands of pieces of anti Amendment II have been halted over the decades by the NRA.
Your critique is similar to purist Ron Paul methodology vs. Rand Paul's impure methodology.
I ran an auto repair shop in Illinois for 20 years and kept a pistol in the tow truck for protection. Due to double felony laws I took it out of my tow truck and went into Chicago's West side to pick up a car. Without a word or warning two black guys attacked me with baseball bats aiming for my head. When I lost conciousness they ripped my pockets open spilling the money on the ground. I came to almost immediately and while they were picking up the cash.
I shoved the one guy hard into a cinder block wall that fortuitously had a hook or big bolt sticking out of it and the other guy dropped his bat which I kicked out of reach. I staggered about 50 feet with blood pouring into my eyes and leaned my back against a light pole. I started yelling for help as loud as I could. Help didn't arrive, but 5 teenaged gangbangers did and circled me discussing if I had anything of value on me. The one guy pulled out a piece of pipe and I took a fighting stance just as a Chicago ambulance pulled up.
Two giant white paramedics with bullet proof vests jumped out with sticks and giant cans of mace and chased the gang bangers off.
The rest of the story is boring.
Give the NRA a break. They are on the right side of this.
