They are setting him up to fail. They'll let him have his day now while they are waiting for the GOP's chosen candidate to rise up. Once that happens, they'll try to tear Rand down.

One major difference between Rand and Ron is that Rand will not just shrug it off. Look back at the way he handled his senatorial run. He didn't let them get by with twisting his words, and he made sure that people knew his side of the story. Ron Paul is wonderful, but I always hated that he wouldn't call them on the lies. I don't see that being much of a problem for Rand. He tends to be far more aggressive about defending his image.
