Besides party loyalty, there is a phenomenon called "friendship"

It seems lost on some people that perhaps Rand and Mitch formed a friendship that goes beyond political posturing. This does not surprise me, as the only person in the world who understands what it feels like to be a sitting Kentucky senator is Mitch McConnell, and this inevitably will bond them in certain ways. They hang out, their wives hang out, and their staffs work together. Even if they were not friends he still would have endorsed McConnell, as endorsing the incumbent is part of the party.

I don't know what some people expected to happen. Getting mad at this is a waste of energy.
