I'm just guessing but....

1. the path of most resistance changes when you stop looking at the building in the aggregate, as a whole. One floor fell several feet at a down facing vector. This then repeated.
2. The steel structure did not turn to dust. It fell fast because the resistance vector was minor compared to the collapse vector.
3. a plane like that isn't 12 tons of steel and titanium. It's mostly aluminum, some steel and a little titanium. Also,
4. We know DNA would have survived because arms and legs did.
