I was forced into an independent contractor role due to the economy and have found that while you lose a lot of the bene's of a full time job (health insurance, 401K, salary, etc... I am happier, less stressed, and free to explore some of the ideas I've had for years, but was unable to due to IP, confidentiality agreeements, etc. of the companies I was working for.
While nothing has "popped" for me yet, I'm optimistic given my networking efforts, ideas and current relationships with various vendors.
