Curiously Pike isn't mentioned in either of those Wikipedia links. Any idea why? He should be in there...
I'm not going to argue that Pike's involvement with Freemasonry didn't play any role in his pardon. It probably did, having friends on the other side who belong to the same fraternity as you can't hurt. I will argue that it's likely not the only reason:
One has to wonder, were there any other prominent Confederates who were also deeply involved in Freemasonry and Scottish Rite who were not spared?
