There's a correlation between obesity

and socioeconomic status to some extent, but as the population at large has been getting heavier, that gap has been narrowing.

Comparing the current generation to the last, I'd say the health issue has more to do with the vastly higher number of hours this generation has sat in front of one or another screen (tv, computer, phone) vs. the last generation at the same age.

I agree that food quality plays a part in the health differences. I'd say it's the replacement of corn syrup for sugar, the greater quantity of processed and/or genetically-engineered foods eaten, and greater amount of pesticides ingested since WWII. Unfortunately, yes, eating organic is expensive.
