It was that quote that changed my perception of the Constitution

Some of the Founders did their best to restrict "The natural progress ...for liberty to yield,and government to gain ground" (TJefferson), but they were ultimately not successful.

Once the power was centralized by the Constitution, it was only a matter of time before it began to grow out of control.
