A great parallel with history: in the early 1600s, some 50 Japanese pirates plundered Ming China for six months, terrorizing the population who had no strength left to resist them. That's because the army was out fighting foreign enemies like elsewhere, like Mongols and Manchus. This handful of pirates helped topple the Ming regime some years later.
And here we are: the lone superpower, pushing everyone around in the world -- yet completely helpless at home.
"Cowards & idiots can come along for the ride but they gotta sit in the back seat!"
