Hi jruss

I am writing you to ask a question, not to enter into a discussion. I just want to know how the law is reconciled here with Jesus' words:

Exodus 21:23 And if any mischief follow, then thou shalt give life for life, 24 Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, 25 Burning for burning, wound for wound, stripe for stripe.

and Jesus' Words

Matt 5:38 Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:39But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.

(I also I understand the penalty for adultry according to the law is death, but Jesus said that whoever is without sin may pick up the first stone.)

I know we have talked before and I am not here trying to change your mind. I am wanting to understand how those passages are understood as the law and Jesus seem to be contrary in teaching.
