In reply to comment: I read it was a 1.6 litre cooker. (see in situ)

That's smaller than a half

That's smaller than a half gallon, didn't know that made any that small...

The reason I ask is I only see pictures of the lid, and from those pictures it seems the lid was the failure upon detonation. This would suggest, as do also the videos of the explosion, that the explosions force would be directed in one direction. From the videos I've seen, the explosion seems to be directed upward.

I'm not so sure this Boston thing may have just been media distraction from the real story, which is in Texas.

An ammonium nitrate plant was just taken out, as I'm sure most of you are aware. This plant was not reporting to Homeland Security that it had 270 tons of high explosives. Such a manufacturer is required to report a stockpile of a mere 400 pounds of ammonium nitrate.

If the government were about to do "something" that might cause a "rebellion", they would certainly want to first make sure to reduce, as much as possible, the amount of available ammunition and EXPLOSIVES available to certain groups, such as Ultra Conservative Redneck Texans, before they commenced any such actions.

The Boston Pressure Cooker Party has certainly drawn most of the attention away from the Texas Munitions Elimination Party.
