Comment: Samuel Adams would tell off the King's governor,

(See in situ)

Samuel Adams would tell off the King's governor,

in fact, he did! When Governor Gage tried to bribe him , and warn him his life would be in danger if he stayed the course, his reply to Gage's messenger was:

"Then you may tell Governor Gage that I trust that I have long since made my peace with the King of Kings. No personal consideration shall induce me to abandon the righteous cause of my country: And tell Governor Gage, it is the advise of Samuel Adams to him: 'no longer to insult the feelings of an exasperated people."

"Hence, naturally enough, my symbol for Hell is something like the bureaucracy of a police state or the office of a thoroughly nasty business concern." ~~C.S. Lewis
