Did you expect it to go down in slow motion or something? All the weight above will be applied on one point, the weakest one. As long as that is weaker, the building will go down at NEAR free fall speed, not free fall, the resistance is overcome in milliseconds.

What would have been weird would be if it fell REALLY slowly. How does that even WORK? It can fall in phases as the structure weakens further, buy each 'fall' will obviously be near free fall.
