We just had our "Benefit Review" with our insurance provider in the company I work for (small company, 30 full-time, I'd say 25 Obama voters, 4 Vote for the "other guy", & Me). The look of "stunned silence" on the faces of my coworkers was priceless when they heard that they were going to pay more out of their checks, HMO's were going away, and their deductibles were going from $500 to at minimum $2800 when the change happens. (We are, luckily, not switching for almost a year). We also hire a small crew of seasonal employees for about 4-5 months of 40 hours+ per week - we are going to have to limit them to 3 days a week to avoid paying a full year of insurance for them, it would bankrupt us. And....my company is too small and cannot afford the administration costs of offering HSA's in the meantime.
In a moment of silence I let "slip": "Well....seeing as the insurance companies wrote the bill, Congress didn't read it, and the large corporations are exempted, I'd say we are pretty lucky...". No one reacted, not even a 'garrumph', they just all stared at the paperwork.
