I wish I knew the answer.

I alternate between optimism and pessimism constantly, although my pessimism is tempered with a type of serene acceptance. There really are a lot of bright spots in the news. But the fact that the whole system can, at any time, change the rules up on us before we make too many gains is quite frightening. The talk of confiscating guns and outlawing home schooling is particularly frightening to me.

My best response to your question is: Follow the Golden Rule in all your dealings with people, and other people will be more open to your ideas about liberty. Many of the people in power simply aren't nice people, and when it comes time for someone to make a decision about who is correct, you, or the government, they will be swayed more by your example than by your preaching.
