I am a dentist...

...and it's possible that you have/had a dry socket? This happens when the blood clot in the extraction site becomes dislodged exposing jaw bone. The pain is worse than the worst toothache and usually appears 48 hours after the extraction. It's more common in the lower jaw than in the upper. There is a paste that the dentist can put into the socket to alleviate the pain but I'm glad you are feeling better!! All extraction sites heal but some take longer than others... :))
