Nah, you make valid points, but that's not exactly what I'm getting at. What I'm saying is that even questioning/criticizing the Fed would've earned most people the "kook" label, regardless of how valid their points were. Kind of like how people get called "racist" no matter how valid their criticism of Obama is. And then there's the whole "antisemite" deal when it comes to criticizing Israel.

Seems to me the reason why RP supporters are so often labelled as "kooky" is because many advocate non-interventionism (I was called crazy by many for not jumping on the 'Kony 2012' bandwagon, for example). To many Americans, we always need to be at war with somebody or something, and to suggest otherwise is naive/nuts/siding with the enemy/et cetera.
